gestАвтором второй главы был Карл Вагнер, американский автор героической фэнтези, один из исследователей творчества Говарда и его продолжатель.
Он прежде всего известен своим циклом про Кейна, бессмертного убийцу (имеется ввиду библейский Каин, в сущности). Кейн - это что-то вроде злого Конана. Это не значит, что Конан был особо добрый, но Кейн - просто-таки Ивил героической фэнтези. Как и Ивил, Кейн - левша, хорошо владеющий обоими руками; как и Ивил, он обладатель безумных голубых глаз. Но Ивил худощав и темноволос, в то время как Кейн - рыжеволосый гигант.
...В общем, накачал я себе этого Кейна (*ой!*), благо, он и на русский переводился.
Заодно, нашёл себе ещё одного Ивила :).
Судья Холден из "Кровавого Меридиана" американского писателя Кормака Маккарти. Для тех, кто читает по-английски: "Harold Bloom declared that McCarthy's Holden is "the most frightening figure in all of American literature"".
И на ружьё Судьи нанесена гравировка "Et in Arcadia ego", именно. Вы в курсе, да?
В общем, это какой-то чёртов злой люден. Хомо супериор первого поколения, выбравший путь тьмы.
Holden is a central figure in Cormac McCarthy's novel Blood Meridian. In the novel, he and Glanton are the leaders of a pack of nomadic criminals who rob, rape, and kill across the border between Texas and Mexico. He is described as a seven foot tall albino with absolutely no hair... Throughout the novel, he murders scores of people, including children... As depicted in Blood Meridian, Holden is a homicidal pedophile. Aside from the children he openly kills, he is seen enticing children with sweets, and a child often goes missing from locations when he is in the vicinity. Holden displays an extraordinary range of gifts in the book: preternatural breadth of knowledge and skills - paleontology, archaeology, linguistics, law, technical drawing, geology, prestidigitation, and philosophy, to name a few... The Judge Holden character delights in misleading, manipulating and setting men against one another, and in complex argument.
